Regulated Emitters consist of Emitters regulated under the Alberta Regulations or other applicable regulatory jurisdictions. such as power generators, oil and gas producers and refiners, pipeline companies, fertilizer producers and concrete manufacturers.
Project Owners consist of owners of projects that reduce emissions beyond a "business as usual" baseline. These projects include emission reduction activities such as land-fill methane capture, aerobic composting, bio-fuel production and use, zero/low tillage agriculture, carbon capture and sequestration, forestation and avoided de-forestation.
Aggregators consist of entities that aggregate Offsets generated by Project Owners, usually in cases where the individual projects do not generate Offset volumes that are large enough to be marketed alone or traded individually on the NACX. Project Owners whose emission offset projects do not generate Offset volumes sufficient to trade on the exchange are encouraged to market their Offsets through an aggregator member.
Voluntary Emitters consist of large entities with a net worth in excess of $5 million that are either exempt from regulation, or do not generate GHG emissions in quantities that require them to be regulated. Voluntary Emitters may wish to voluntarily offset their emissions and green their operations by purchasing Offsets to zero out their emissions.
